The new law encouraging people to read more has been introduced in the United Arab Emirates. It has a lot of measures aimed at government’s desire for a higher literacy rate. Government workers will be paid extra money for reading books during working hours. The law is very encouraging for private entities which set up libraries at their factories, offices and other workplaces. It will also encourage shopping malls to offer spaces to create public libraries so people have a chance to read while they are shopping. These libraries will be easy to use for all kinds of people including those with reading disabilities. Even coffee shops at shopping centers will have to offer books and other reading materials to their visitors.

The President of UAE, Mister Sheikh Khalifa, issued National Reading Law. In May of this year, he launched the National Strategy for Reading, which has a 10-year goal to create a nation of “avid readers”. It aims to make reading a lifelong habit for nearly 50 per cent of the nation’s adults and 80 per cent of school students. It also aims to get students to read an average of at least 20 books a year. Minister of Education, Mister Hussain Al Hammadi, believes that the new law is: “A road map for building a reading, civilised society capable of change, and a world leader in development.” Dr Tod Laursen, President of Khalifa University, said that in the era of the Internet, it was still important for libraries and books to have their place in society.

Hi. I do not agree with the answer for the first statement: Government workers all over the world will be paid for reading books (NG). Why do answer NG? Isn’t it given?) The text has this information, only it does not state it for the whole world, it speaks only of the UAE!) Don’t you agree. It is F, actually.
